The St. Mary’s boys soccer team cruised to a 5-0 win over rival Fenwick on the road Wednesday night to improve to 4-0. An offensive spurt in the first half saw the Spartans take a quick 4-0 lead.
Thiago De Oliveira got things started when he scored the first goal of the night on an assist by Chris Garcia. Two minutes later Kevin Perez made it a 2-0 lead, also assisted by Garcia. St. Mary’s took a 3-0 lead when Garcia scored assisted by Nolan Perez. The fourth goal was scored by Nolan Perez, assisted by Garcia. Nolan Perez capped off the scoring on a free kick in the second half. Nick Pappas split the shutout in net with Richie Mateo.
St. Mary’s hosts St. Joseph on Friday afternoon at Manning.
“I’m hoping we keep the momentum,” Spartans coach Mike D’Agostino said. “We’re doing a great job passing and moving the ball. If we keep playing the way we are, I don’t think many teams can stop us.”
Peabody 4, Swampscott 2
Joe Varghese scored the first goal and Dan Johnson added the other for the Big Blue. Both goals were assisted by Cam Lau. Ted Pitman and Matt Clark split the evening in net for Swampscott.
The Big Blue dropped to 1-2 on the season. Swampscott will look to bounce back on Friday when it hosts Somerville. “It was a hard-fought game,” Swampscott coach Mike Amaral said. “We made some changes in the second half. A few mistimed runs cost us some opportunities. Peabody came out in the second half and scored three goals and we only scored two.”
For Peabody, Michael Tansey broke the scoreless tie late in the first half with an assist from Josh Atemkeng. Jonathan Alves made it 2-0 with an assist from Mike Panzini, and made it 3-1 later in the half with Trevor Lodi getting the assist. Atemkeng added an insurance goal late in the contest to seal the victory for the Tanners.
Salem 3, English 0
Brenan DeLeon and Nuhi Xhemajli played well in the midfield. Angel Castillo made seven saves in net. English (0-4) will continue to search for its first win of the season when the Bulldogs host Everett on Friday at Manning.

St. Mary’s 208, Spellman 149
The Spartans improved to 4-0 on the season with a win on the road against Catholic Central League opponent Cardinal Spellman.
Christian Emmerich and Luke Smith led the way for the Spartans with 34 points apiece. Chris Fioravanti was right behind with 31 points. Luke Sargent tallied 29, Aidan Emmerich had 28 and Aedon Leydon and Nick Cicolini each had 26 points.
The unbeaten Spartans host Lowell Catholic at Gannon on Monday.
