SAUGUS — Police say a Lynn man was drunk when he raced down Route 107 and crashed into a scooter, injured two people, and fled the scene.

Dennis G. Haggett, 69, of Lynn, was arrested and charged with operating under the influence of liquor for the second offense, leaving the scene of personal injury or death, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

“Witnesses indicated two motor vehicles were racing down 107 and one struck the motor vehicle with the two riders,” said Saugus Police Lt. Ronald Giorgetti.

According to the police report, witnesses described a silver Ford Mustang with black racing stripes flying past them on Route 1A. The driver reportedly struck a motorcycle and keep going.

A 22-year-old male driver from Saugus and 17-year-old female passenger from East Boston were thrown from the bike. They both suffered serious injuries and were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital at about 8 p.m. Thursday, said Giorgetti.

Revere Police reported receiving a call about a silver mustang pulled over near North Marshall Street and Salem Street with a smashed windshield and flat tire. The driver was described to be an older white male with a black sweatshirt removing bottles from his car, according to the police report.
