Six months after Lenardo “Lenny” Clement was fatally shot downtown, his family will celebrate what would have been his 47th birthday on Monday.
“There are still a lot of rough spots, but we want to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who made a big difference and supported my family through this journey,” said Muriel Clement, Lenny’s mother.
Lenny Clement was killed Easter Sunday on Exchange Street. His friend, Prince Belin, 41, was struck by bullets moments later.
The two men were walking downtown with Belin’s fiancee following services at the Zion Baptist Church when they were approached by a man driving a Chrysler. The alleged shooter, identified by police as William A. Cash, had stopped in the crosswalk and threatened them before shots rang out. Belin has recovered from his bullet wounds.
Cash is being held without bail and a trial is expected next year.
“Len was an amazing young man who faced many challenges since the age of two years old when he was diagnosed with viral encephalitis that left him legally blind,” Muriel Clement said. “I am committed to letting his legacy live on and look forward to launching a support group for people who face grief.”
