The Peabody volleyball team rolled to its eighth win of the season, 3-0, over Lynn English on Wednesday afternoon. Set scores for the match were 25-12, 25-12 and 25-15.
Top performers for the Tanners were Martyna Kot, who logged six aces in the win, and Alexa Flewelling, who tallied five aces. Serena Laro added nine kills, Julissa Dailey totalled four aces and Rachel Coleman contributed with 12 assists. Peabody improves to 8-3 on the season and is back in action on Friday afternoon at Revere.
Despite the loss, English coach Mike Haddad was proud of his team for an all-around solid effort.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the team,” Haddad said. “They stayed in the game and played strong sets.”
Haddad highlighted Brittney Somaiy and Jessica Ruiz, who made her varsity debut, for strong performances.
VOLLEYBALL
Everett 3, Classical 0
The Rams fell by set scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-12. Pamela Diaz led the Rams with eight digs, while Emily Silva added six digs. Shanelle Barry tallied six kills, two blocks and one block assist. With the loss, the Rams drop to 7-4 on the season. Classical’s back in action on Friday evening against Malden.
Marblehead 3, Winthrop 0
The Magicians (7-2) won in straight sets, 25-23, 26-24, 28-26, despite a tough battle in each of them from the Vikings. Katie Knight tallied six kills and Lizzie Myers added five kills. Libero Mandy Dumais contributed with 12 digs.
BOYS SOCCER
St. Mary’s 4, Arlington Catholic 0
At Arlington Catholic, Olu George, Chris Garcia, Joseph Thongsythavong and Connor Mackey each scored goals for the Spartans. Assists on the afternoon were dished by Mackey, George, Alex Nguyen and goalie Richie Mateo. Nguyen’s assist was good for his first career varsity point. Mateo earned his 10th shutout win of the season, on his 18th birthday. The Spartans improve to 11-0 on the year, 7-0 in CCL play.
“Defensively, we’re playing very solid,” Spartans coach Mike D’Agostino said. “We’ve gone eight games without letting a goal in. We have a few players banged up on offense but other players are stepping up and scoring goals and notching assists. We’re looking to keep the momentum going.”
St. Mary’s hosts Austin Prep next Wednesday night. A Spartans win will clinch the CCL for St. Mary’s.
Lynnfield 1, Amesbury 1
Tommy Boston scored Lynnfield’s goal on an assist from Jonathan Luders. Lynnfield is now 5-3-1 on the season.

Liz Shaievitz, Sydney Santosuosso and Tori Morelli all scored for the Pioneers in the shutout victory.

Bryan DeLeon, Jama Aroni, Jayden Lowe, Rodrigo Mora and Ike Oranekw all finished in the top 10 for Tech. The Tigers are now 3-0 in the CAC Small.

Massa Freeman finished in third place and Patricia Araujo finished sixth.

At Gannon, top performers were Christian Emmerich (34 points), Chris Fioravanti (26 points), Aidan Emmerich (26 points), Luke Smith (24 points), Aedan Leydon (24 points), Luke Sargent (19 points) and Kevin McMullen (19 points). The win puts St. Mary’s at 11-1 on the season and the Spartans are at Malden Catholic this afternoon.
Danvers 40 1/2, Swampscott 31 1/2
Steve Santanello won at No. 4, 5 1/2-3 1/2, and Anthony Moschella won at No. 8 by the same score as the Big Blue fell to 4-5 on the season. They’ll look to get back in the win column this afternoon at home against Medford.
Salem 48 1/2, Peabody 23 1/2
The Witches improved to 12-1 and got wins from Nick Angeramo (5 1/2-3 1/2), Ethan Doyle (7 1/2-1 1/2), Troy Zipper (5-4), Tim Farley (5 1/2-3 1/2), Clayton Duffin (7 1/2-1 1/2) and Casey Williamson (9-0).
Saugus 46, North Quincy 26
The Sachems improved to 9-5 and qualified for the state tournament with the win.
FIELD HOCKEY
Marblehead 3, Danvers 1
The Magicians got goals from Bel Sogoloff (who also had an assist), Hadley Carlton and Lizzy Potvin in the victory. Caroline Driscoll chipped in with two assists.
Holly Rowe, Josie Friedman and Maya Goldman also played well. Isabel Levin made eight saves in net.
