PEABODY — A Salem man spotted shoplifting at Macy’s was arrested after jumping a fence with two young children in tow, police said.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday night, security officers at the Northshore Mall chased Marshall Glover Jr. out of the shopping center after he stole nearly $500 of merchandise, according to Peabody Police Captain Dennis Bonaiuto.
Glover had two children with him, a six year old and a four year old, as he tried to outrun security, Bonaiuto said. As he reached a fence in a marshy area, police said Glover tossed one of the children over the fence and carried the second one over with him.
By this time, Peabody police were involved in the pursuit, and Glover surrendered. The two children were taken to nearby Lahey Medical Center as a precaution to be checked out, Bonaiuto said. He could not confirm that the two children were Glover’s.
Glover, 27, of 81 Boston St. in Salem, was charged with shoplifting over $100 by concealing merchandise, disorderly conduct, and two counts of reckless endangerment to a child.
