LYNN — Lynn firefighters put out a different kind of fire on Saturday night when crews successfully delivered a baby shortly before midnight.
A woman in her late 20s gave birth to her second child at her 408 Broadway home with the assistance of Lynn Fire Engine 10 — fire crews arrived a few minutes before midnight and assisted with the delivery, Lynn District Fire Chief Stephen Archer said.
The couple had been sent home from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center earlier in the evening, and plans were to induce the woman in the morning. The couple was only home a short time before the woman went into labor, Archer said.
Both mother and baby are doing fine — they were taken to North Shore Children’s Hospital after the delivery. The father on scene was able to cut the umbilical cord, Archer said.
