NAHANT — Daniella DeCostanza, Carmen Ballantine, Fayth Bascon and Jace Roosein speak with Commander Claudia Gelzer, Coast Guard Commander of Sector Boston.
Gelzer and several of her colleagues visited the Johnson Elementary School to meet with the 6th graders to discuss their careers for Veterans Day. Nahant veterans and first responders also attended the event.
The 5th and 6th grade students made a presentation on the history of Veterans Day, the aspects of the Seal of the Veterans Affairs Department, sang songs and recited poems.
Principal Kevin Andrews also invited his uncle, Brian McCarthy, and his grandfather, 93-year-old Thomas O’Shea. Both men are Navy veterans and Nahant residents.
Kelly’s Roast Beef supplied sandwiches for the guests.
