There wasn’t much drama on North Shore football fields Thursday, for the most part, the victories were comfortable.
Only in Winthrop, where a last-second field goal decided the game between Revere and the Vikings — in the Patriots’ favor — was the outcome not a foregone conclusion by the time the final gun sounded.
Nowhere was that more evident than at Manning Field in Lynn, where English decimated Classical, 38-0. The win raised English’s record to 10-1, making it only the third time in the school’s history the Bulldogs won 10 games in a season.
Ishmile Bangura, with 164 yards, was the leading rusher for the Bulldogs. He also scored a touchdown. Ski Gaston, Bangura’s running mate in the backfield all season, scored two; and junior quarterback Matt Severance threw touchdown passes to Prince Brown and Juan Avelino.
Classical’s Nashaun Butler went over the 1,000-yard receiving mark for the season.
Classical finishes the season at 8-3.
Elsewhere, Marblehead (10-1) captured its fifth straight Thanksgiving victory over Swampscott, crushing the Big Blue, 35-17. Andy Clough threw one touchdown pass and ran for two more for Marblehead while Colin Frary passed for two touchdowns for Swampscott, which fell to 7-4.
Peabody (6-5) traveled to Stackpole Field in Saugus and came home with a 33-7 victory over the Sachems. Noah Freedman and Dylan Peluso scored two touchdowns each for the Tanners, who, with the win, finished over .500. Saugus drops to 4-7.
KIPP Academy closed its maiden football season with a 42-20 loss at Milford. Kymani Morrison, Aris Luna and Taj White-King scored touchdowns for the Panthers, who finished 3-7.
Lynnfield, which began the season by winning six straight, took a 27-13 loss at North Reading.
Both teams finish their seasons at 8-3. The Pioneers suffered a key loss during the game when senior quarterback Matt Mortellite was injured after being sacked. He was taken to the hospital with symptoms of a concussion.
In Winthrop, Miller Field saw its first football action in two years, but Revere made sure the Vikings wouldn’t get to celebrate it. Badr Haou kicked a field goal with only 40 seconds to go to give Revere the 17-14 win.
Xaverian spoiled the first Thanksgiving game at the newly-refurbished and named Glatz Field in Danvers with a 30-0 victory over St. John’s Prep. The loss closes out a rare sub-.500 season for the Eagles, who finished 5-6.
