December 7, 1941 may be the date that lives in infamy, but for many Americans, news about the sneak attack at Pearl Harbor didn’t arrive until a day later. Aside from early radio reports, most people woke up Monday, Dec. 8 and were greeted with the horrible details on the front page of their newspapers. Daily Evening Item readers in 1941 had most of the day to process the news, and learned of Congress’s declaration of war, and what news there was of the 90 local boys in Pearl Harbor at the time.
