Ed Toner, who graduated from Lynn English High School, and went on to play football for the University of Massachusetts and then the Boston Patriots, will be the featured speaker at the Item All-Star Football Dinner, which will be held Thursday, Dec. 14, at Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead.
Toner was honored last month by the Patriots as their inaugural Alumni Association Volunteer of the Year for his community service. His late brother, Tom, played for Swampscott High and the Green Bay Packers, and his son, Eddie Jr., also played professional football, for the Indianapolis Colts.
The Item All-Stars are selected by the Item sports staff with input from coaches of the teams covered by The Item. The team will be announced in The Item and online at www.itemlive.com Monday.

The dinner will also honor five major award winners, including the Item/Agganis Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year.
