Three charged with drug and gun offenses after a Medford neighbor noticed a smoke-filled car

MEDFORD — Three men were arrested on cocaine trafficking and weapons charges on Tuesday night.

Police responded to Piggott Road at approximately 9:15 p.m. after a neighbor reported there was an unknown car parked on the street. The neighbor told officers that there were three men who may have been smoking marijuana in the car, Medford Police said. The neighbor said the inside of the car was filled with smoke.

As police approached the car, they could smell burning marijuana and were concerned about the possible impairment of the driver, and wanted to make sure that he could safely drive the car. While speaking with the men in the car, one of the officers saw a pistol on the floor near the driver’s seat, police said.

Police removed the men from the car and also took possession of the gun. During a search, police found another pistol in one of the passenger’s pockets. None of the men had a state license to carry a firearm, police said.

Police also seized multiple bags of marijuana and cocaine, along with a large amount of cash, which were found during a search of the men and are all indications of illicit drug dealing, police said.

The three men — Andre Dewayne Freeland, 21, of Woburn; Nicholson Jocelyn Nichols, 19, of Cambridge; Kerry Robinson Ulysse, 20, of Cambridge — were each charged with marijuana possession with intent to distribute, cocaine trafficking and carrying a firearm without a license.

“Thanks to a concerned citizen who obviously is concerned for his neighbor’s safety as well, and the good work of the officers that responded, two more guns are off the street as well as impacting the illegal sale of marijuana and cocaine,” said Lt. Paul Covino.
