Roundup: Prep hockey explodes for win

It was an offensive explosion for the St. John’s Prep boys hockey team as the Eagles took down visiting St. Joseph’s of Connecticut 11-0 at Essex Sports Center in Middleton on Saturday afternoon. The explosion was led by Joe Bevere, who netted four goals.

Brian Carrabes added two goals in the victory, while Evan Beers had one goal and one assist. David Sacco, Ryan Farrow and Matty Tighe each scored one goal, as did Seamus Lombard, who scored his first career varsity goal. Tim Usalis and Pat Moran each had one assist.

Next up for the Eagles (2-0-0) is the first day of the Pete Frates Winter Classic on Friday, where they’ll take on BC High at Essex Sports Center.

Danvers 4, Marblehead 0

The Falcons are now 4-0-0 on the year after a shutout win over the Magicians on Saturday. Tom Mento and Conor Purtell each had two goals and one assist in the win, while Jared Mcsisz had two assists. Matt Taylor and Nic DiSciullo had one assist each. Danvers will play a road game against Woburn on Wednesday.

Marblehead (0-3-0) will take on Gloucester in the Cape Ann Savings Bank Tournament on Wednesday at Talbot Rink.

Triton 5, Bishop Fenwick 2

Despite holding a 2-1 lead in the second period, Bishop Fenwick couldn’t hold on for the win on Saturday afternoon. Nick Muzi and Derek Delvecchio each scored one goal in the loss.

The Crusaders (0-3-1) will take on Bishop Feehan in the Catholic Memorial Christmas Tournament at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton on Wednesday.

Revere/Malden 5, Essex Tech 2

The brotherly duo of Mike and Marc Giordano scored one goal each in a win for the Patriots on Saturday, while Zac Rufo added a goal as well. Corey Rufo and Mike Goroshko each had one assist in the win.

The Patriots (3-1-1) take on Ashland in the East Boston Deep Freeze Tournament on Tuesday.

Swampscott 2, Rockport/Manchester-Essex 1

The Big Blue are back at .500 after a close win at Talbot Rink in Gloucester on Saturday. Steve Santanello provided both goals for Swampscott, while Dom Codispoti had one assist.

Swampscott (2-2-0) faces off against Lynn in the Lynn Christmas Tournament at Connery Rink on Wednesday.

St. Mary’s 6, Smithfield (R.I.) 2

St. Mary’s took the long trip down to Rhode Island on Saturday and came back with its first win of the season. Jaiden Moriello and Davis Kinne were among the goal scorers in the win.

The Spartans (1-1-2) has a matchup with Austin Prep in the Christie Serino Christmas Classic on Wednesday.

Winthrop 8, Peabody 1

Sam Yarrow had three goals and one assist to pace the Vikings explosive offense on Saturday, while Tyler Marley added a hat trick of his own. Bryce Costin scored the the other two goals for Winthrop, and Tyler Mignosa, Mike Brooks and Jake Adamson had one assist each. The Vikings (2-1-0) will take on North Reading in the Kasabuski Christmas Classic in Saugus on Wednesday.

Peabody (0-3-0) will go up against Wakefield on the road in Stoneham on Thursday.

Lynnfield 6, Hamilton-Wenham 0

The Pioneers are still undefeated on the year after a shutout win on Saturday evening. George Deroche led the way with a hat trick, while Robbie Brandano and Tyler Murphy had one goal and one assist each. Jaret Simpson added one goal, and Cooper Marengi, Joey Mack, Danny Mack and John Simonetti each had one assist.

Lynnfield (4-0-0) will look to continue its win streak on Tuesday when it take on Saugus in the Kasabuski Christmas Classic.

GIRLS HOCKEY

St. Mary’s 4, Medfield 0

Behind two goals from Aylah Cioffi, the Spartans improved to 3-0-0 with a win on Saturday afternoon. Jenna Chaplain and Mady Hentosh each had one goal in the victory.

Next up for St. Mary’s will be a matchup with Woburn at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton on Saturday.

Winthrop/Lynn/Saugus 5, Central Catholic 2

Five different players registered goals for the Vikings in a win over a solid Merrimack Valley Conference opponent on Saturday. McKayla Norris, Emma Carleton, Grace Carleton, Bella Perrotti and Gemma DiMento all lit the lamp in the win.

Next up for the still-unbeaten Vikings (2-0-1) will be a game against Cambridge on Wednesday.

Beverly/Danvers 2, Arlington Catholic 0

Jamie Dupont scored her first career varsity goal for the Panthers in the win on Saturday, with Natalie Gesualdi adding the other goal. Erica Haibon and Sophia McNeill each had one assist.

Beverly/Danvers (1-3-0) will play Shrewsbury on Wednesday.

BOYS TRACK

NEC Freshman/Sophomore Meet

The Beverly boys took the freshman/sophomore meet at the Reggie Lewis Center with a total of 51 points despite only getting one event win on Saturday. That win came in the two-mile, with Jackson Wood running a time of 11:03.2.

Other winners on the day were Revere’s Lucas Barbosa, who won both the high jump (five feet, eight inches) and the 50-yard hurdles (7.0 seconds), Swampscott’s Antone Vazquez in the shot put (41-2 1/2), Medford’s Tristan Howard in the 50 dash (5.6), Winthrop’s Kim Haddar in the 300 (41.8), Swampscott’s Aidan Pulaski in the 600 (1:37.8), Malden’s Omar Asousy in the 1000 (2:53.6) and Medford’s Roberto DiTucci in the one-mile (5:22.8).

GIRLS TRACK

NEC Freshman/Sophomore Meet

Beverly notched a big win at the Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday after recording 97 points thanks to four event wins by Panther runners on the day. Shelby DeGrenier notched two wins for Beverly, taking both the high jump (4-10) and the 600 (1:52.7), while Klaudia Rushi won the 50 hurdles (8.4) and India Ingemi in the 300 (44.4).

Other event winners were Malden’s Makayla Preston in the shot put (30-1 1/2), Medford’s Aniya Crump in the 50 dash (6.7), Marblehead’s Tess Whalen in the 1000 (3:30.1), Classical’s Rachel Brennan in the one-mile (5:54.8) and Marblehead’s Caroline Johnson in the two-mile (12:56.6).
