LYNN — The new year will ring in with the appointment of two new principals for Lynn Public Schools.

Lissa Bloom, acting principal of the Early Childhood Center, will be the new Harrington Elementary School principal. The Peabody resident has worked in the city’s schools for 14 years.

She has taught Pre-K, Grades 1, 2, English Immersion, and served as curriculum and instruction teacher at Harrington, assisting faculty in standards-based instruction. Prior to becoming acting principal at the Early Childhood Center, she was a program specialist at Harrington, working with the principal in an administrative position.

Bloom earned a B.S. in Human Resources and Family Development from the University of Connecticut, and a Master’s degree in Education from American International College.

Taking over for Bloom’s job at the Early Childhood Center will be Nancy Cassidy, the city’s curriculum and instruction teacher at Drewicz Elementary School.

The Lynn resident has worked in the city since 2001 as a Pre-K, K and first-grade teacher. Prior to that she was a preschool teacher for the JOI Child Care Center and served as its executive director for 13 years.

Cassidy received a B.A. in Sociology from Boston College, and Master of Education in Special Education from Salem State College.

They will start their new jobs on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
