SAUGUS — Dr. Rev. Robert Leroe, who served for 17 years as pastor of the Cliftondale Congregational Church before retiring about a year and a half ago, will be the interim pastor at First Parish Congregational Church in Wakefield.
“Interim ministry is a wonderful opportunity to help a congregation grow while searching for a full-time pastor and I am very blessed to serve First Parish,” he said.
Before moving to Saugus, Leroe was an Army Chaplain for 25 years. He was stationed throughout the U.S., Germany, and South Korea and participated in Desert Storm and Operation Joint Endeavor in the Balkans before retiring in 1999.
He has also worked in several other Saugus groups and organizations. He was the president of the Saugus Clergy Association and also part of the Saugus Rotary Club, the Saugus Coalition against domestic violence, the Saugus Speaks Out Health Task Force, and the Saugus Veterans Council.
“I was called by [First Parish Congregational Church] to help them out and I felt like it was the right thing to do,” he said. “They’ve been so welcoming and I’m excited to be here.”
Leroe will serve as interim pastor at First Parish Congregational Church part time until they can find a permanent Pastor.
