NAHANT — The town of Nahant declared a state of emergency shortly before 3 p.m.
Dennis Ball, the director of the Department of Public Works and Nahant Emergency Management is asking all residents to shelter in place. The department is unable to pump water out of several flooded roads because of the tide, and many streets are impassible, including the Causeway, which is the only way in and out of town.
“We’re trying to get a couple of ambulances – my ambulance is stranded on the Lynn side of the rotary,” said Ball. “I’m trying to get a back up and I just ordered equipment to help me out with some pumps.”
Residents have yet to lose electricity, he said.
Ocean flooding has caused State and Lynn police to shut down Route 1A, the Nahant Rotary, and Lynn Shore Drive until further notice, he said.
