LYNN — Local resident and Freemason Herb French (right) received his Masonic 50 Year Veterans Medal and the Joseph Warren Distinguished Service Medal at the Golden Fleece Lodge Monday night from Rev. Dr. Richard E. Haley as Shaun Flanagan looked on.
French has been a Freemason for 50 years and is accorded the title Worshipful reflecting his stature as a Freemason.
The Joseph Warren Distinguished Service Medal is an honor bestowed as acknowledgement for a Freemason’s distinguished service to his Lodge and Freemasonry. The award has strict requirements and recipients are unaware that they will receive the honor.
Warren was born in Roxbury in 1741. A radical leader in activities leading to the Revolution, he delivered addresses commemorating the Boston Massacre in 1772 and 1775, and drafted the Suffolk Resolves. He rose to become Grand Master of Masons in Massachusetts.
