Roundup: Winthrop girls hockey defeats Peabody

McKayla Norris scored twice as the Vikings combine hockey team consisting of Lynn and Saugus girls took down Peabody, 5-1, Saturday.

Catie O’Shea, Gemma DiMento and Emma Carleton each scored one goal in the win. Winthrop (7-2-1) will play on the road against Waltham on Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Rink.

The lone goal for Peabody came from Jess Robert on an assist from Sarah Buckley. The Tanners (6-4-1) will play Oakmont this afternoon at Iorio Arena on the campus of Cushing Academy.

Fenwick 1, Auburn 1

Fenwick’s only goal came from Gabby Davern on an assist from Amanda Blanchette. Goalie Caylin Wesley had 25 saves in the draw.

The Crusaders (4-4-2) will play Oakmont on Friday at Iorio Arena.

Beverly 2, Marblehead 2

The Panthers (3-7-1) will take on Medford at LoConte Rink on Wednesday. Marblehead (6-3-1) will play Medford on Saturday at LoConte.

St. Mary’s 2, Williams 1

St. Mary’s improves to 8-2-0 on the year after a close win on Saturday. The Spartans will take on Matignon at Stoneham Arena on Wednesday.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Danvers 50, Saugus 43

Justin Roberto scored 11 of his 14 points in the second half to lift Danvers to its first win of the season on Saturday night. John Weimert added 10 points in the win, while Justin DiTomaso had nine points.

The Eagles finished in third place as a team in the Mount Hope Dual Meet Tournament on Saturday. A handful of Prep wrestlers went 5-0 in their matches, including Nick Curley at 106 pounds, Kevin Carney at 120 pounds, Ryan Garlitz at 132 pounds, Zach Alexander at 138 pounds, Achilles Gikas at 145 pounds and Drew Leahy at 182 pounds.

With the wins, the Prep improves to 23-4 on the year.
