The St. John’s Prep hockey team trailed 3-2 entering the third period, but rallied for two goals in the final frame to take down Bishop Guertin (N.H.), 4-3, at Skate 3 in Tyngsborough on Monday night. Ryan Bradley netted the game-winning goal for the Eagles after Ryan Farrow tied the score at 3-3 early in the third period.
Joe Bevere scored one goal and dished one assist to lead the way for St. John’s, while Evan Beers scored one goal. Pat Moran dished two assists and Brian Nadeau had one assist.
With the win, the Eagles qualified for the state tournament with a record of 8-3-2. The Prep is back in action on Saturday when they travel to Boston for a game against Catholic Memorial at Warrior Ice Arena.
GIRLS HOCKEY
St. Mary’s 8, Lexington 0
The Spartans scored five goals in the opening period and never looked back as they claimed their 11th win of the season. Jenna Chaplain and Aylah Cioffi each scored two goals to lead the win. Codi Butt, Felicia D’Alessandro, Marina DiBiasio and Makayla McGrath each scored one goal. Goalies Lauren Vaccaro, who made 10 saves in two periods, and Maddy Delano, who tallied seven saves in one period, split time in net. The Spartans improved to 11-2 with the victory. St. Mary’s is back on the ice Saturday afternoon (2:10) when the Spartans host Auburn at Connery Rink.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Haverhill 50, St. Mary’s 49
Despite 19 points from Jalen Echevarria, the Spartans lost just their second game of the season on Monday night when they fell to Haverhill on the road. Stephen Fama added 12 points in the loss.
St. Mary’s (11-2) still has a shot at some hardware this year, as a win on Friday will give the Spartans at least a share of the Catholic Central League title. The Spartans will host Cardinal Spellman on Friday night (6:30).
Burke 82, Salem 70
Nate Lebron and Isaiah Williamson each had 15 points in the loss on Monday. The Witches fell to 7-6 on the season with the loss. Salem will play on the road in Peabody tonight in a battle between Northeastern Conference rivals.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Triton 50, Saugus 43
The Sachems led 25-19 at halftime but Saugus pulled away in the second half for the win. Alessia Salzillo scored 20 points for Saugus, while Shaylin Groark added 10 points and Allie Kotkowski added six points.
“Triton’s a hard working team,” Sachems coach Mark Schruender said. “They box out well and do all the little things.”
The Sachems fell to 6-6 this season. Saugus hosts Medford tonight (7).
