Lynn Vocational Technical Institute (LVTI) students (front, from left) Esterlyn Velez, Kevin Erazo, Kevin Aguilar, Ulises Olivares, Jason Flores-Guzman, Zachary Rocco, Patricia Araujo, Julio Mateo, German Torres, Alfred Torres, Edgar Lopez,  Belmin Berilo, Keoni Gaskin, Erick Martinez, Rafael Velez-Rodriguez, Abner Ramirez, and Jose Beltre are all smiles after (Laborers’ International Union of North America) LIUNA workers spent last week in the school to assist with Construction Craft Laborer Apprenticeship Training week.

The students are from the Carpentry, Plumbing, Welding and Metal Fabrication and Auto Tech shops. This program is sponsored by the Dept. of Transportation and UMass Amherst Building and Construction Technology. The training included a field trip out to the New England Laborers’ Apprenticeship Training Campus in Hopkinton.

Jeff Cathcart (left, back row) from the New England Labor Training Academy celebrated the students’ achievements with LVTI Director Robert Buontempo, Mayor Thomas M. McGee and Richard Wall, LVTI vocational department head.

The students will receive credit toward apprenticeship programs with  the Laborers Union, Welders Union, Carpenters Union, Plumbers Union, and the Teamsters Union.
