Weather creates changes in MIAA tournament schedule

[email protected]

March 7, 2018 by [email protected]

The storm, and the uncertainty it has created, caused a ripple effect of changes in plans for the MIAA high school tournaments, both in hockey and basketball.

Wednesday night’s casualties were Division 3 North basketball semifinals for both boys and girls, and a Division 1A hockey game. All three were postponed.

They will be made up today, with the St. Mary’s boys facing Bedford at St. John’s Prep in Danvers (7:45) and the Bishop Fenwick girls squaring off against Stoneham at Wakefield (7).

St. John’s Prep hockey’s Division 1A elimination game was moved from Wednesday night until Thursday, at 8:10, at the Chelmsford Forum.

Because of the change in the St. John’s Prep game, the Swampscott-Lynn Division 3 North boys hockey semifinal, which had been scheduled for tonight in Chelmsford, will now be played Friday. However, the location has been changed from the Chelmsford Forum to Cronin Rink at Revere, and the game will be played at 5:30.

Going forward, the basketball sectional finals will take place at the Tsongas Center in Lowell Saturday, and times to be announced. The North hockey final — in which either Lynn or Swampscott will play (depending on who wins Friday’s game) is Monday (5:30), also at the Tsongas.

Monday and Tuesday are slated as state semifinal basketball games, which will be played the TD Garden. Finals are a week from Saturday in Springfield.

Whichever team wins Monday’s hockey sectional final will have to play a state semifinal during the week, at a date and time to be determined. The state finals for hockey are a week from Sunday at the Garden.
