LYNN — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a dedication ceremony for its new building on Bubier Street on Sunday morning.
Scott Malstrom, second counselor in the North Shore stake presidency for the Mormon Church, said the congregation in Lynn had rented a building for almost 20 years, but had to move out of their old facility a little over a year ago.
Previously, the church had been on Tremont Street, but the lease was up and the landlord wanted to repurpose the building, forcing them to move. Malstrom said services were held for about a year in a church meeting house in Lynnfield before they were able to procure their new location in Lynn.
Malstrom said the new building on Tremont Street is now ready for occupancy and the purpose of the dedication ceremony was to give it a special blessing as members come in to meet their congregation once again. The facility was dedicated as a place of worship for the congregation. The first church service at the new building was also on Sunday.
The dedication prayer was given by North Shore stake president Michael Kruckenberg.
“I think it’s fantastic,” said Malstrom. “I’ve worked with the congregation there for several years. The previous facility was too small. They reached the limit of how many people they could accommodate in that facility. (This congregation) will be a great opportunity for the members in Lynn. (We’re) very excited about this.”
The North Shore Massachusetts stake, which includes the Lynn branch, also includes the Billerica, Lawrence, Lynnfield, Methuen, Revere 1st and Revere 2nd Wards.
