PEABODY — A Lynn man is facing drug trafficking charges after a Peabody officer noticed some suspicious activity on Main Street Saturday afternoon.
Felix Oscar Lopez, 33, of 24 Cherry St. in Lynn was arrested and charged with trafficking in heroin and cocaine.
Officer Joseph Maroney was on patrol downtown around 5:30 p.m. when he saw a man and a woman sitting on the steps and acting suspiciously at the building next to McDonald’s on Main Street, according to Captain Dennis Bonauito.
As Maroney was watching the two, a gray Honda pulled into the McDonald’s parking lot and the woman got into the passenger side of the car. After the woman got out of the car, she walked back to the man on the steps and Maroney saw an interaction between the two, Bonauito said.
At this point, Maroney called for backup and officers Van Tsoulas, Taryn Brotherton, and Sgt. Matthew Stark arrived and helped conduct an investigation of the gray Honda. After talking to the driver, later identified as Lopez, officers saw drug items in the car, the captain said.
“There was a little over 33 grams of cocaine and 29 grams of heroin in his possession, along with a large quantity of cash,” said Bonauito. “It was exceptional work from our officer who took note of the suspicious activity and another example of the diligent efforts of the Peabody Police Department to address the ongoing heroin crisis in Massachusetts.”
