Getting the season off to a strong start was a priority for the Bishop Fenwick boys lacrosse team. Now, six games into the season, the Crusaders are off to the start they hoped for.

Thursday morning’s 11-4 victory over Essex Tech puts Fenwick at 5-1 on the season.

“It’s a nice feeling to be able to come out 5-1 through the early part of our schedule,” Crusaders coach Stephen Driscoll said. “It gives us a positive feeling about how we’re playing our game. There’s a lot we still need to work on but we’re moving in the right direction.”

Junior attacker Brian Harrington led the Fenwick offense with six goals and one assist.

“I’d put Brian as one of the best attackmen in the area,” Driscoll said. “He’s really kind of come into his own. He’s realizing that teams are starting to game plan against him. He scored six goals today and he’s been able to facilitate in other games. He’s looking to play in college and it’s great for him to keep making his game complete.”

Diego Alvarez-Segee added four goals and Derek Delvecchio scored two goals with one assist. Also logging assists were Ty Layton (2), Stefano Fabiano (1) and Ryan Fiandaca (1). Brandon Kenney had a solid game on the face-offs, continuing his strong start to the season.

Fenwick’s back in action Monday when the Crusaders take on Austin Prep.

“Austin Prep-Fenwick’s always a good game,” Driscoll said. “We have to come ready to play. I know our guys will be excited to play against Austin Prep. It’s going to be a great challenge for us to see where we’re at.”
