SAUGUS — A 28-year-old Saugus man was arrested after allegedly brandishing a syringe and robbing a Lincoln Avenue liquor store on Saturday.
Barre Hurley was charged with armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon. He also had three warrants out for his arrest, which were for Class B drug possession, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and marked lanes violation.
Police responded to Amato’s Discount Liquors, located at 206 Lincoln Ave., after a 911 from an employee, who reported a man had entered the store, brandished a syringe and demanded money, Saugus police said.
The man, later identified as Hurley, ran off with an undetermined amount of cash in the direction of Kane’s Donuts, police said.
Police responded to the scene and later found Hurley on Ballard Street at Spencer Avenue, which is near Amato’s. He was arrested, police said.
“(Police) Chief (Domenic J.) Dimella would like to recognize Sgt. Stephen Rappa, Officer Brian Misci, Officer Jeffrey Wood, Officer David Zeitz and Officer Brittany Naumann for their quick response and keen investigative skills that led to the apprehension of the suspect,” police said in a statement.
