School sports roundup: St. Mary’s defeats Matignon

The St. Mary’s baseball team geared up for a busy week Sunday with an 11-2 win over Matignon in which the teams dodged rain drops.

The Spartans, 11-5, will test their mettle against St. John’s Prep Tuesday (7) at Fraser Field and then play in the Nipper Clancy Tournament Friday against Classical in the first round (7) and Saturday in either the consolation or the final. All games are at Fraser Field.

Sunday, Lee Pacheco got the start and improved to 5-0. He went four innings, giving up two runs and striking out three. John Mulready went two innings, striking out five.

Mulready also went 2-for-3, as did Anthony Bono. Both had two RBI.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Peabody 16 Gloucester 5

Colleen Crotty had six goals and an assist to lead the Tanners, who raised their record to 13-3. Also scoring were Olivia Kiricoples (2 goals and an assist), Hailee Lomasney (4 goals, 2 assists), Maddy Lomasney (3 goals and an assist) and Catherine Manning (goal).

Top defenders were Aja Alimonte, Jordyn Collins, Sarah Buckley, Alyssa Saraceni .

Goalies Olivia Lavalle (5 saves) and Sydney Nagle (4 saves) split time in net.
