The 2018 MIAA state tournament tennis pairings were announced Friday afternoon and a handful of local teams are ready to compete in their respective brackets.
The boys brackets include nine local teams. In Division 1 North, Peabody and St. John’s Prep qualified for the tournament. The Eagles, the Catholic Conference champions, finished the regular season at 13-5. They earned the No. 7 seed and host No. 10 Chelmsford Monday (3:30).
The Tanners finished the season at 7-6. They earned the No. 9 seed and visit No. 8 Newton South Monday (3:30).
In Division 2 North, Marblehead qualified with a 14-6 record. That earned the Magicians the No. 7 seed in the bracket and a home match against No. 10 Bedford Monday (3:30). Also in Division 2 North, No. 15 Beverly visits No. 2 Winchester and No. 14 Gloucester visits No. 3 Wayland. Both matches are Monday (3:30).
In Division 3 North, Lynnfield, Bishop Fenwick, Swampscott and Winthrop all qualified. The Pioneers went undefeated during the regular season at 15-0 and earned the top seed in the bracket. Lynnfield earned a first-round bye and hosts the winner between No. 8 Fenwick and No. 9 Swampscott. The Crusaders and Big Blue will battle Monday (3:30) at Fenwick.
Winthrop finished its regular season at 7-7 and earned the No. 10 seed. The Vikings visit No. 7 Ipswich Tuesday (3:30).
The girls brackets include 11 local teams. In Division 1 North, Peabody and Revere each qualified for the tournament.
The Tanners finished their regular season at 11-4 and earned the No. 6 seed in the bracket. They’ll visit No. 4 Boston Latin Monday (3:30). The Patriots went 9-6 during the regular season and earned the No. 9 seed. Revere has a first-round match against No. 8 North Andover on the road Monday (4).
In Division 2 North, there are five local teams in the bracket. The Marblehead Magicians went 17-1 during the regular season and earned the No. 2 seed. They’ll host No. 15 Danvers Monday (4) in a battle between NEC teams. Danvers finished its regular season at 9-9. Lynn Classical earned the No. 10 seed with a 10-7 record. The Rams will visit Northeastern Conference rival Beverly, the No. 7 seed, Monday (4).
Also, the No. 13 Gloucester Fishermen visit No. 4 Burlington Monday (4).
Division 3 North has four local teams competing in the bracket. No. 3 Swampscott went 14-2 in the regular season, earning a first-round bye. The Big Blue host the winner between No. 6 Lynnfield and No. 11 Fenwick in the second round. The Pioneers host the Crusaders Sunday (1).
Saugus earned the No. 7 seed with a 12-4 mark. The Sachems host No. 10 Amesbury Sunday (1).
