Marblehead's Andy Clough netted three goals in the 14-6 loss to Reading Friday.

School sports lineup: Marblehead boys lacrosse falls to Reading

The Marblehead boys lacrosse team fell behind early and never recovered Friday afternoon, as the No. 5 Magicians lost to No. 4 Reading, 14-6, in the Division 2 North quarterfinals.

Andy Clough led the way for Marblehead with three goals, while Sam Thompson scored two goals and Sam Cioffi had one goal.

Marblehead closes out the season at 13-6.

BASEBALL

Hamilton-Wenham 15, Lynn Tech 0

The Tigers end the season in the first round of the Division 4 North state tournament.

“The whole team had a great year and I’m happy for them,” Tech coach Rich Germano said. “They got to experience the state tournament. I’d like to thank my seniors and my assistant coach, Benji Johns. We have a young team. We have talent to work with for the next few years.”

Tech ends its season with a 9-10 record. The tournament appearance was Tech’s first since the 2008 season.

“I’m really proud of the kids,” Germano said.

Salem 1, East Boston 0

The No. 9 Vikings advanced to the Division 2 North quarterfinals. Salem awaits the winner between No. 1 Masconomet and No. 16 Melrose.

SOFTBALL

Winthrop 4, Watertown 1

Vikings freshman third baseman Brooke Costin went 2-for-3 to lead the offense. Costin scored two runs and logged one stolen base. Freshman catcher Katie Gagnon went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI double.

Gagnon, making her second start at catcher, played a stellar defensive game. Freshman second baseman Izzy Mahoney recorded four putouts.

Winthrop freshman Sofia Vitale pitched seven innings, allowed four hits, one earned run and fanned four.

No. 21 Winthrop visits No. 5 East Boston Sunday (11) in the Division 3 North first round.

Revere 3, Beverly 1

The No. 13 Patriots advanced to the Sunday night’s (7) Division 1 North first round game at No. 4 Methuen.
