North Shore Community College will offer the first 30-credit social media marketing certificate program in Massachusetts. Students completing the one-year (10-course) certificate will fill the employment gap in social media marketing jobs upon graduation.
“Statistics show that this week, in a 25-mile radius of Danvers, there are 2,067 jobs that require social media skills, with salaries starting at $40,000 and growing to $95,000,” said the school in a statement.
The program, which launches in the fall, is designed to address the gap between students coming out of high school and professionals in the workforce with no social media marketing experience. The college launched its first social media marketing strategy course in 2015, according to the statement.
“I applaud our dedicated faculty and academic leaders for the foresight and initiative to develop this innovative program which positions NSCC as the Massachusetts state leader in this exploding field,” said Dr. Patricia A. Gentile, NSCC President. “The program is solid and cutting-edge. Its development, review, and approval has included input from experts from the college’s Marketing Program Advisory Board, non-NSCC affiliated faculty members, and industry leaders in the field, with final approval coming from the Massachusetts state Board of Higher Education.”
