LYNN — The city will be represented on America’s Got Talent as 15-year-old Amanda Mena starts her journey on the show.
Mena’s audition will air Tuesday night on NBC. The soon-to-be 10th grader grew up in the city as an active member in the community, especially the Lynn YMCA. She became a member of the after-school program when she was about 7 years old.
“When we first opened the music studio here at the YMCA she was one of first participants and that was a tool that helped her uncover her gift,” said Audrey Jimenez, executive director of the YMCA. “She’s been going strong ever since and she’s the only one from Massachusetts on the show tonight.”
The Lynn teenager may be young, but this is not the beginning of her vocal career. In 2014, Mena was the winner of the second season of Telemundo’s “La Voz Kids”. After her win, she scored a recording contract with Universal Studios and has been on an upward trajectory ever since.
Her audition will air at 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.
