LYNN — One suspect has been arrested in the fatal shooting of Romel Danis early last Saturday morning.
Victor Figueroa, of 39 Baker St. in Lynn, was arrested at 3:41 p.m., on Thursday on a murder warrant charge in the homicide of 25-year-old Danis, according to Lynn Police Chief Michael Mageary. The Lynn resident was killed in a triple shooting last Saturday, around 2 a.m., near 65 Lawton Ave, just around the corner from where police had been responding to a loud music complaint from a party. Danis was walking back from the party with some friends when the suspects began firing.
Danis was raised by his single mother in a house with his two other brothers and his cousin after moving to the city at age 3 from the Dominican Republic. He worked every day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the convenience store at 127 Munroe St. in Lynn. He was a graduate of Lynn Vocational Technical Institute and had plans to enroll at North Shore Community College in the fall to study graphic design.
Family members of the Lynn resident said he didn’t really have problems with anyone, given he worked almost 12 hours every day and didn’t have a lot of time to socialize.
Surveillance video caught on a Lawton Avenue neighbor’s security camera was obtained by Danis’ family and shows two suspects firing their weapons and then fleeing the scene. Responding officers could be seen arriving minutes later to find Danis’ body and attending to the other victims.
The two other shooting victims who were hospitalized at Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries, only identified by authorities as 22- and 23-year-old Lynn residents, were last reported as in stable condition and recovering from their wounds.
There isn’t a set date for Figueroa’s arraignment yet and there’s one more arrest to be made as the homicide is still under investigation, according to Mageary.
