The heat was enough to keep many people away from the Lynn Woods Summer Cross Country Series this week, but 117 brave souls battled the nearly 100-degree temperatures to run across the three races Thursday afternoon.

Lynn’s Maddie Cataloni finished second (18:27), while Swampscott’s Stacey Connor placed third (19:05). Lynn’s Aliyah Cataloni (20:15) and Salem’s Lidia Hernandez (20:16) rounded out the top five finishers in the kids race.
The intermediate race, a 2.3-mile run around the Goat Path, was won by Peabody’s Andrea Saccardo with a time of 16:46. Sarah Bitterman of Marblehead placed second (16:55), while Lynn’s Paul Robertson placed third (17:11). Jessica Davis of Quincy finished fourth (17:16) and Cade Buckley of Peabody finished fifth (17:39).
The four-mile long race, which ran to Penney Bridge and back, was won by Lynn’s Jim Pawlicki with a time of 26:03. Greg Esbitt of Salem finished second (27:04), while Groveland’s Kyle Costello placed third (27:08).
