Girls from Girls Inc. file into the front yard of Nancy Whitman's Nahant home for a cookout and a day at the beach. More than 150 elementary school-aged girls and volunteers from Girls Inc. of Lynn will enjoy a cookout at the home of Nancy Whitman . Whitman began the tradition 16 years ago. She recounted that while a volunteer at Girls Inc. she felt the girls needed some 'outings' during the summer to get out of the city, so she offered her Nahant seaside home for a day trip. Nahant Woman's Club also is a host. When Whitman started hosting the girls, there were only about 40-50 of them, but over time the size grew, so she enlisted the support of the Nahant Woman's Club members. Olde Neighborhood Foods of Lynn supplies the hot dogs, the paper goods and food items. Members of the Nahant Woman’s club also provide additional funding to make the day a success. (Spenser R.
