PEABODY — A man broke into a Kenwood Road home Wednesday morning and surprised a teenage girl who lives there before fleeing the residence and triggering a police search.
Police Captain Dennis Bonaiuto said the girl told police she was in her 14 Kenwood Road bedroom at 9:30 a.m. when she heard “rumbling in an adjoining bedroom and assumed it was her parents.” Her bedroom door opened and a man stepped into the room before turning and running out of the house.
Bonaiuto said the girl described the man as a tall, unshaven white male wearing white shorts, a white shirt and a Patriots hat. The man was reportedly carrying a light blue bag with a “Children’s Place” logo on it.
Both Peabody and Salem police set up a search perimeter in the neighborhood off of Margin Street and conducted a search for the man with the aid of police dogs. They were still searching as of 2:30 p.m.
Bonaiuto said jewelry was also reported stolen from the home.
