SWAMPSCOTT — State and local police are investigating the unattended death of a Wakefield woman after her body was found on a Swampscott sidewalk.

The body of the 34-year-old woman was located by a passerby in the area of Bellaire Drive and Morningside Drive on Wednesday. Just before 9:30 p.m., a Swampscott police officer was flagged down by a pedestrian who saw an unresponsive woman laying on the sidewalk, according to a press release from Swampscott Police.

The officer, with the assistance of an unknown man, began administering CPR to the woman. Swampscott firefighters and an ambulance team arrived on scene and took over medical attention, according to police. The woman was taken to North Shore Medical Center in Salem, where she was pronounced dead.

The identity of the victim is not being released until her family has been notified. Foul play is not suspected at this time and the victim had no obvious signs of injury, according to police. Her remains will stay at the medical examiner’s office in Boston until investigators gain more information.

State Police and Swampscott Police Detectives ask anyone with any information about the victim or the incident to call 781-595-1111.
