SAUGUS — There will be a change in polling locations for some residents when voting in the November election.
Voters in Precinct 10 typically vote at the Italian American Club at 1 Beachview Ave. and voters in Precinct 3 typically go to the Hammersmith Nursing Home on Chestnut Street. But in November, both precincts 3 and 10 will cast ballots at the Italian American Club.
“The last election that we had — They are doing reconstruction and they put us in a room that was really tight,” said Town Clerk Ellen Schena.
Just under 19 percent of voters turned out for the primary, which was lower than expected, said Schena.
“Usually for a state primary we would have 50 to 60 percent,” she said.
There is enough room for voters from both precincts to vote and park at the Italian American Club, she said. After the November election, polling places will go back to normal. The Board of Selectmen approved the change unanimously.
All other precincts will maintain their usual polling places.
Precinct 1 votes at the American Legion Hall on Taylor Street, precincts 2 and 6 at the Veterans Memorial Elementary School on Hurd Avenue, precincts 4 and 8 at the Belmonte Middle School on Dow Street, Precinct 5 at the Lynnhurst Elementary School on Elm Street, and Precinct 9 at the Oaklandvale Elementary School on Main Street.
Three Saugus residents are expected to appear on the ballot in the race for the 9th Essex District.
Incumbent Donald Wong is on the Republican ballot and challenger Matthew Crescenzo is on the Democratic. Michael Coller is running as an Independent.
The 9th Essex District encompasses precincts 1, 2, 4-9 in Saugus; precincts 1, 2, 3 and 7 in Wakefield; and Ward 1 precincts 1 and 2 in Lynn.
Schena said every head of household in Precinct 3 will be alerted of the change through a letter in the mail.
