School Sports Roundup: Bulldog volleyball fights for win over Malden

The Lynn English volleyball team had to fight for every last point Tuesday evening, eventually battling its way to a 3-2 win in five sets over Malden. The set scores were 24-26, 25-19, 25-21, 14-25, 15-12.

Merily Folestal was a standout player for the Bulldogs in the win, recording 10 kills and four aces in addition to playing some great defense at the net. Andy Nhiv and Amy Lon both played greta games at setter, while Chrisneiris Difo had a big all-around game.

English plays on the road at Winthrop Thursday.

VOLLEYBALL

Swampscott 3, Beverly 2

The Big Blue went back and forth with Beverly Tuesday, eventually earning the win by set scores of 25-20, 14-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-11.

Senior captain Alexa Winter led the offensive attack with eight kills, while junior captain Cassidy Ryan had six aces and 18 assists. Junior Morgan Linehan (nine blocks) and junior Annika Laudemann (24 digs) led the defensive effort for Swampscott.

For Beverly, senior Sophie McGarigal had 16 digs in the loss. Senior Kate Mulligan added eight aces and six kills.

Marblehead 3, Saugus 0

The Magicians won in straight sets Tuesday, 25-14, 25-11, 25-18.

Sarah Lipsky led the way with seven kills, while Anna Arbo had 11 aces and Elaine Kapoll had eight aces.
