School Sports Roundup: St. Mary’s grabs two wins in CCL tri-match

The St. Mary’s golf team had a big day at Gannon Golf Club, rolling to two big wins in a Catholic Central League tri-match Thursday afternoon. The Spartans beat Bishop Fenwick, 170-149, and then took down Cardinal Spellman, 170-102.

Christian Emmerich was the top scorer for St. Mary’s with 34 points, while Sean Mathers enjoyed a career-high score of 27 points. Owen Maguire added 26 points, Luke Smith had 25 points, Luke Sargent contributed 24 points and Pete Pagliuca had 20 points. Nick Cicolini rounded out the scorers with 18 points.

St. Mary’s (7-2) visits Lowell Catholic at Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut Friday.

GOLF
Marblehead 59, Medford 13

Just one day after dropping its first match of the season, Marblehead earned a solid win on the road at Unicorn Golf Course. The Magicians were led by a quartet of golfers who earned medalist honors with scores of 38 in Brendan Locke, Ben Brennan, Ben Weed and Will Cleary.

Other winners for Marblehead were Gavin Lundgren, Sam Thompson, Matt Thompson and Charlie Suhr.

Marblehead (4-1) has a slate of tough matches next week, starting with Swampscott Monday.

Swampscott 49, Somerville 23

The Big Blue rode a trio of big wins to a victory at Tedesco Country Club.

Jake Goldman, Max Pegnato and Aidan Graciale each won their respective matches 8-1, while Tate Greenfield and Nate Stern each won their respective matches 6 1/2-2 1/2.

Swampscott (6-0) takes on Marblehead back at Tedesco Country Club Monday.

BOYS SOCCER
Lynnfield 4, Georgetown 0
Lynnfield led 2-0 at halftime thanks to goals scored by Max Sieger and Nathan Bass. Tommy Hauser and Aidan Connolly scored once each in the second half for the 4-0 final. Pioneers goalie Jack Campbell earned the shutout win in net.
So far, so good for the Pioneers as Lynnfield remains unbeaten at 6-0.
“It’s been great,” Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe said. “We’ve come out and had a great start. I think we thought we were a petty good team coming in. So far, so good. We have a couple really good games coming up so that’ll tell a lot in the next couple days.”

Tech 1, Whittier 0
Thomas Khaipi scored the lone goal in Tech’s victory.

VOLLEYBALL
Peabody 3, Everett 0
The Tanners earned the win in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-23, 25-13.

Ava LaValle led the way with nine kills, while Alexa Flewelling had four kills. Martyna Kot contributed three kills and four aces, while Sammy Wallace and Olivia Kiricoples each had three kills.

Classical 3, Swampscott 1
Despite dropping the first set, the Rams rallied to earn a win by set scores of 16-25, 25-8, 25-22, 25-22.

Amber Crayton had a big game with 14 service points, six aces, six kills and 10 digs, while Jenna Tobin had 13 service points and 14 digs. Shanelle Belmer-Barry and Keysha Chevannes each had three blocks, while Maggie McHale had two blocks. Pamela Diaz added 12 digs in the win.

Classical (6-2) visits Malden Friday (5:30).

Winthrop 3, English 1

The Vikings won by set scores of 25-14, 23-25, 25-20 and 26-24. English’s Merily Folestal logged 21 attacks with five kills and 10 blocks. Khammany Phommachanh tallied 16 attacks and three kills.

English (2-6) takes on Beverly Tuesday (5:30).

Beverly 3, Saugus 0

Beverly won by set scores of 25-19, 25-16, 25-15.

Vivian Nascimento filled up the stat sheet with seven aces, six kills and five digs in the win. Julia Erricola added five kills, four digs and one ace, while Kate Mulligan had five kills. Sophie McGarigal had a big defensive game with 23 digs.

FIELD HOCKEY
Marblehead 5, Everett 0

Mae Colwell scored two goals to lead the way for Marblehead. Callie O’Neil had one goal and one assist, while Madi Monahan, Amanda Schillinger and Jane O’Neil each had one goal. Maddie Dimare, Julie Arts, Robin Arts and Charlotte Plakans each had one assist.
