School Sports Roundup: Cora leads English past Gloucester

The English boys soccer team defeated Gloucester, 3-1, Friday afternoon in a Northeastern Conference clash. Julio Cora scored two goals to lead the Bulldogs and Francisco Portillo scored once. Ryan Lima distributed two assists.
Patrick Nkada, Obed Baswa and Alexis Castaneda played well defensively. Goalie Cherubin Musanga made four saves.
English hosts Classical Tuesday (6).


BOYS SOCCER
Classical 0, Malden 0
The Rams missed a penalty kick toward the end of the game. At 6-3-1, Classical looks to Tuesday’s (6) game against English.


Lynnfield 3, Pentucket 1
At Pentucket, Jack Cleary, Tommy Hauser and Nathan Bass each scored a goal for Lynnfield. Goalie Jack Campbell made six saves. Dave Gentile and Luke Martinho led the defense.
“It was definitely our best win,” Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe said. “It was a huge win to go up there and get it done.”
The Pioneers (7-0) host Masconomet Monday (3:45).


Fenwick 7, Lowell Catholic 1
Brian Harrington scored three goals and Sean Kern added two goals with one assist. Brendan Crichton and Brian Sharp “had outstanding games in the midfield,” Fenwick coach Tony Enos said. Fenwick hosts St. Mary’s Monday (7).

VOLLEYBALL
Classical 3, Malden 0
The Rams won by set scores of 25-20, 25-13, 25-14.
Pamela Diaz had a huge game from the service line, notching 20 service points and nine aces. Jenna Tobin also added nine service points from the back line. Shanelle Belmer-Barry and Skyler Crayton had four kills each, while Jean Gupton added three kills and one block. Amber Crayton had five assists, while Keysha Chevannes added three assists.
Classical (7-2) takes on Everett Tuesday.

Hamilton-Wenham 3, Beverly 1
The Panthers fell by set scores of 28-26, 15-25, 17-25, 21-25.

Alice Malgara had a big game with 10 digs, while Sophie McGarigal had eight digs and Julia Erricola had seven digs. Kate Mulligan had six kills, five aces and two blocks, while Avery Barror had four aces and 14 assists.

Masconomet 3, Marblehead 0
Marblehead lost by set scores of 14-25, 21-25, 20-25.

Anna Arbo led the way with six kills, while Kika Ludivica had four kills. Izzy Curtin had 17 assists in the loss.

The Magicians (6-4) play Winthrop Tuesday.

St. Mary’s 3, Saugus 2
The Spartans won by set scores of 23-25, 19-25, 25-12, 25-15, 15-8.

GIRLS SOCCER
Danvers 3, Peabody 0
Peabody (4-3-1) goalkeeper Shelby Doucette had a great game, while Sam Simmons played well at midfield despite the loss.

For Danvers (6-1-1, 4-0 NEC), Arianna Bezanson scored two goals and Riley Baker scored one goal. Goalie Kylie McCormack earned her fifth shutout win of the season.

Marblehead 3, Medford 0
The Magicians scored all three goals in the first half to secure the win.

Emma Robinson, Meeghan Cronin and Grace Arthur scored one goal each in the victory, which improved Marblehead’s record to 3-5.

GOLF
St. Mary’s 178, Lowell Catholic 146
The Spartans got another big outing from the Emmerich brothers in their win at Four Oaks Country Club in Dracut, with Christian Emmerich scoring a match-high 35 points and Aidan Emmerich coming in close second with 31 points. Other contributors to the win were Luke Sargent (26 points), Luke Smith (24 points), Nick Cicolini (22 points), Sean Mathers (21 points) and Pete Pagliuca (19 points).

St. Mary’s (8-2) plays on the road against Catholic Central League rival Bishop Fenwick Monday at The Meadow at Peabody.
