School Sports Roundup: Ramirez, Tigers sail past Essex Tech

Behind a two-goal effort from Geo Ramirez, the Lynn Tech boys soccer team earned a shutout win over Essex Tech, 4-0, on the road Tuesday afternoon.

Yeferson Lopez and Ashby Murphy added one goal each in the victory.

“We played well all around on the road today, I was very proud of how we played,” said Tech coach Eric Moreno Sr. “It was nice to get a win away from home.”

GIRLS SOCCER

Saugus 6, Gloucester 0

Jessica Nazzaro and Jeimmy Monroy Rodrigus each scored two goals to pace the Saugus offense, while Haley McLaughlin and DJ Munafo each scored one goal.

The Sachems (6-1) host Salem Wednesday.

Malden 6, English 0

Kaylee Whelton, Ravyn Rapley and Annaka Ueland played well in the loss for the Bulldogs.

English (3-7) plays on the road at Winthrop Thursday.

GOLF

St. Mary’s 186, Austin Prep 181

The Spartans punched their ticket to the state tournament with a close win over a Catholic Central League rival at Mount Hood Golf Course.

“That’s always a tough match down there, it’s a tough course and they always play us tight,” said St. Mary’s coach Jay Fiste. “Our guys did a great job in the conditions to get the win.”

Leading the way was Christian Emmerich, who scored a team-high 34 points. Aidan Emmerich was right behind with 32 points, while Pete Pagliuca contributed 30 points. Luke Smith (26 points), Nick Cicolini (23 points), Sean Mathers (23 points) and Luke Sargent (18 points) rounded out the scorers for the Spartans.

Marblehead 47 1/2, Beverly 24 1/2

Marblehead played its best match of the season, according to coach Bob Green, as the Magicians earned a big win at Tedesco Country Club.

Brendan Locke shot a 36 to earn medalist honors and tie his match with Beverly’s Jackson Scott, 4 1/2-4 1/2.

Earning wins for Marblehead were Ben Brennan (5-4), Ben Weed (6-3), Will Cleary (6-3), Sam Thompson (6-3) and Ben Gansenberg (6-3). Gavin Lundgren tied his match, 4 1/2-4 1/2.

The Magicians (6-1) visit St. Mary’s Wednesday (3) at Gannon Golf Club.

Salem 48 1/2, Everett 23 1/2

The Witches played well from the top of their lineup to the bottom to earn the victory.

Ethan Doyle won his match 7 1/2-1 1/2 to lead the way, while Nick Angeramo and Troy Zipper each won their matches 7-2. Bobby Jellison, Joe Parr and Alex L’Heureux each won their matches 6-3, while Casey Williamson won his match 5-4.

Salem (8-2) takes on Gloucester Wednesday.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Classical 3, Everett 0

After a tightly contested opening set, the Rams earned a win in straight sets, 25-22, 25-15, 25-13.

Amber Crayton had a big game with 21 service points, while Pamela Diaz added 12 service points in the win. Skyler Crayton added two kills, two blocks and two assists, while Maggie McHale had three kills, three assists and one block. Shanelle Belmer-Barry had four kills, Keysha Chevannes had two kills and one block and Jean Gupton had two kills.

Classical (8-2) visits Malden Thursday (5:30).

Marblehead 3, Winthrop 0

Marblehead earned the win in straight sets Tuesday, 25-14, 25-10, 25-16.

Leading the way offensively for the Magicians were Jordan Heafitz with eight kills, Kika Ludovica with seven kills and Camille Comstock with six kills. Izzy Curtin also had a big game with 22 assists.

The Magicians (6-4) visit Swampscott Thursday (5:30).

Medford 3, Swampscott 2

In a back-and-forth affai, the Big Blue came up just short in a five-setter. Set scores were 25-16, 22-25, 21-25, 25-16, 9-15.

Cassidy Ryan had 27 digs and 17 assists to lead the way for Swampscott, while Alexa Winter had six blocks and five kills. Alexa Papazoglou had four aces, while Annika Laudemann had five kills.

Peabody 3, Lynn English 1

Behind a big game for Tatiana Correia (14 service points, three aces, 15 digs), the Tanners earned a solid win.

Martyna Kot also had a solid game on the back line with five aces, while Ava LaValle and Alexa Flewelling each had five kills.

For English, Merily Folestal and Julia Somaiy played well.

“We knew coming into this game that it was going to be challenging, as Peabody is a very good team,” said English coach Mike Haddad. “But we held our own and took them into the third set, which shows the growth that we’ve had this year.”

English (2-7) plays Everett Thursday (5:30).

Beverly 3, Malden 1

It was a hard fight, but the Panthers came out on top in four sets, 25-23, 29-27, 22-25, 25-22.

Kate Mulligan had 10 kills, three aces and one block in the win, while Julia Erricola had eight kills, two aces and five digs. Alice Malgara added four kills, nine digs and one ace.
