LYNN — The KIPP Academy Lynn drama club is hosting their second Culture Night.
In an effort to raise money for their June theatre production, which will be announced during the event, the local charter school created a night focused on the community of Lynn and its culturally diverse residents. The event debuted last year after the drama club brainstormed different ways to fundraise for their production of “The Lion King Jr.”
“Students are brought into our school daily, and rarely do we get the chance to conversely be brought into the lives of our students,” said Caitlin Beckman, theatre teacher. “The Culture Night allows students to teach us about and celebrate their own cultures, while learning about the cultures of their peers, teachers and community members as well. By learning about each other, we are better able to understand each other, make connections and build relationships.”
The event is from 5 to 8 p.m. at 90 High Rock St. and costs $3 per person or $10 for families of four or more. Students from various schools, as well as Cultura Latina Dance Academy, will be performing dance numbers. Food from a variety of local businesses will be provided and there will be informational booths throughout the evening.
