The Lynnfield field hockey team saved its best for last in the Pioneers’ final regular season game, knocking Gloucester off the undefeated bus with a 2-1 win Thursday at Pioneer Stadium.

Mia Lemieux opened the scoring with an assist from Jen Flynn at the 23:22 mark of the first half. Gloucester’s Maddie Machado (from Mia Sala) tied the game at 1-1 with 10:15 to go in the half. But Lynnfield came right back, with Ashley Barrett netting the game-winning goal on a textbook corner with 4:24 to play in the half (assist to Carolyn Garofoli). Pioneers goalie Emily Dickey finished with nine saves.
With the win, Lynnfield (14-3-1) awaits Monday’s announcement of the Division 2 North tournament pairings.
