SAUGUS — A 25-year-old Lynn man was arrested by Saugus Police and charged with trafficking cocaine, carrying an unlicensed firearm, and assault and battery on a police officer, among several other charges, Thursday night.
Irving J. Terrero, 25, of 382 Chestnut St., Lynn, was charged with trafficking 36 grams of crack cocaine, a firearm violation with a prior violent or drug crime, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a loaded large-capacity firearm, possession of a firearm for a felony, possession of ammunition without a firearm identification card, breaking and entering during the night time for a felony, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, and use of a motor vehicle in a felony larceny.
Officers from the patrol division were assisting officers from the parole division in the area of Central Street when they said they saw a suspicious man and a suspicious motor vehicle, according to Interim Chief Ronald Giorgetti.
The man, later identified at Terrero, walked away from the vehicle and tried to force open the back door of a home, said Giorgetti. He was slowed down when the homeowners came to the door.
“The people came to the door and he tried to make it out like he lived there,” said Giorgetti, “we believe, to evade the police.”
Police found he was carrying 36 grams of crack cocaine, he said. During a subsequent search of the motor vehicle, officers Thomas DiPietro, Jonathan Maes, Matthew Donahue, and Sgt. Stephen Rappa Jr. discovered two firearms — a pistol and a rifle — and ammunition, said Giorgetti.
Terrero allegedly assaulted police while resisting arrest.
“I just want to recognize these officers for their dedication and their observations in taking a violent felon off the street and removing two firearms and a large quantity of drugs from the town of Saugus,” said Giorgetti.
