REVERE — A 5-year-old girl has been killed, a 2-month-old female infant has life-threatening injuries, three other pedestrians were injured, and a woman has been arrested after a crash on Route 145 at North Shore Road on Sunday evening.
Three of the pedestrians have non-life-threatening injuries, a 2-year-old child, 27-year-old woman and another woman. The 5-year-old was declared dead at the scene and the four other victims were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, according to State Police.
State and Revere Police responded to the scene shortly after 5 p.m., and learned that the crash occurred after a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox SUV veered off the roadway for unknown reasons onto the grass median strip and struck the pedestrians who were all at the crosswalk, State Police said.
The driver, a 42-year-old Boston woman, has been arrested after the fatal crash, but her name and charges have not been released. A State Police drug recognition expert performed an assessment on the driver for potential impairment by narcotics, State Police said.
A 40-year-old East Boston woman, a passenger of the vehicle, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, State Police said.
The crash temporarily shut down Route 145 in both directions.
The incident is under investigation by State Police, including its Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section.
