NAHANT — A Johnson Elementary School second grader created a Christmas card that will be sent from state Sen. Brendan Crighton’s office.

The card was created by Eliana Uzcategui. It features a black-capped chickadee, which is the Massachusetts state bird. On the other side of the card, Eliana wrote “Winter is great, but when you get together and spread peace and love, that is the best.”

“I think the message of peace and love, certainly during these times, was refreshing,” said Crighton. “It was also a beautiful picture of the state bird.”

Crighton visited the school on Tuesday to announce the winner. He gave every student a fruit cup for participating in the contest and a pizza party for Uzcategui’s second grade class.

“We got so many submissions, it was hard to go through all of them and choose just one,” he said.

Crighton hopes to make the Christmas card contest an annual tradition. He said that each year, he will hold the contest in a different town that he represents.
