All lanes of Route 1 North in Saugus reopened around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, about two hours after a Coca-cola truck jackknifed and caused a fuel spill.
Initial reports indicated the empty truck had rolled over, but when police arrived on scene, they observed that it had bent in a way that blocked the highway and fuel had spilled from the vehicle, according to Massachusetts State Police. The incident occured near Polcari’s.
“Saugus Fire handled the spill,” said Dave Procopio, a Massachusetts State Police spokesperson, who added that Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection assessed any environmental damage.
There were no injuries, he said.
All lanes were closed for about half, said Procopio. The left lane reopened around 1 p.m. and all lanes were open by 2:30 p.m. Procopio said the goal was to have the scene cleared in time for rush hour.
