The Saugus boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season Monday night with a 66-47 victory over Matignon on the road.
Saugus featured three scorers in double-figures. Christian Correia led all scorers with 26 points. Mason Nickolas scored 12 points, while Michael Bertrand scored 11 points and went 3-for-3 from beyond the arc
“It felt great,” Sachems coach Mark Bertrand said. “I was really happy for the kids. They’ve been working really hard. We’ve had some close games recently with Revere, Peabody and Gloucester. They played 32 minutes and I couldn’t be happier for them. The win felt great.”
The Sachems (1-8) visit Danvers Friday night (7).
“I’m hoping to see the kids build from this,” Bertrand said. “We played excellent defense. We talk about it starting with defense and we did excellent. We know Danvers will be a tough game. Matignon was a tough place to play. It was a good game but it was close. Our game plan is to build off this, that’s what our goal is.”
