Swampscott orthodontist earns ’10 Under Ten’ recognition

report

February 27, 2019 by report

SWAMPSCOTT — Dr. Carlin Weaver, a board-certified orthodontist practicing in Swampscott, has been recognized among the 2019 “10 Under Ten” by the Massachusetts Dental Society. Established by the MDS in 2005, the annual “10 Under Ten” list highlights the diversity of new dentists in Massachusetts and their impact on the dental profession.

To qualify for the recognition, dentists must have graduated from dental school within the past 10 years, be an MDS member, and have made significant contributions to the profession, their community, and organized dentistry.

Dr. Weaver practices alongside her father, Dr. Buck Weaver, as part of Weaver Orthodontics in Vinnin Square, which has served the North Shore for more than 35 years. She joined her father in his practice immediately after graduating from residency, and she took over the reins in 2017.

“Running an office is the hardest, but most rewarding, thing I’ve ever done,” Dr. Weaver said. “I feel so lucky to be able to do something that makes me, and others, smile every day.

“I always knew I wanted to work with people and help people. I studied psychology and sociology in college, but after graduating I realized I would love to see the tangible results of my work.

“I had never considered dentistry as a career before, but I saw how happy my father was in his profession and I knew it would bring me the same happiness and fulfillment,” she said. “Dentistry and orthodontics allow me to work with people and help them, while also making them happier — it’s a win-win!

“It’s hard to beat taking off someone’s braces and seeing the excitement in their eyes when they see their new smile. I also love putting braces on younger children who are so excited to pick their colors. They are proud of their braces and so excited to show their friends — it really makes me smile!”

Dr. Weaver earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine in 2013 from the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, where she graduated at the top of her class, and she completed her orthodontic residency there in 2015. She has completed additional training in orthodontics for sleep-disordered breathing and sleep apnea.

In addition to her membership in the MDS, Dr. Weaver is the secretary of the North Shore District Dental Society.
