The awards continue to roll in for the Division 1 state champion English boys basketball team.
The Bulldogs captured the state crown this past weekend with a 64-57 win over Putnam at Holy Cross. Now, they’re well-represented on the Northeastern Conference all-star team, and with the league’s major awards.
Coach Antonio Anderson was named the NEC North Coach of the Year and Jarnel Guzman was named NEC North Player of the Year.
Anderson, in his second season at English, coached the Bulldogs to a perfect (15-0) record against league opponents. Guzman, a junior transfer from St. John’s, was a key piece to English’s success, scoring a game-high 22 points in the Bulldogs’ state semifinal win over Newton North.
Gloucester’s Khris Silveria was named NEC South Coach of the Year. Marcus Montagnino (Gloucester) and Isaiah Williamson (Salem) were named co-NEC South players of the year. Saugus (South) and Revere (North) earned the sportsmanship awards.
The NEC North all-conference team includes Dyrrell Rucker (Classical), Alonzo Linton (English), Omar Quiltor (Everett), Jack Crowley (Beverly) and Duncan Moreland (Beverly). The NEC South all-conference team includes Kester Dorestant (Medford), Christian Correia (Saugus), Marcos Montiel (Somerville), Jackson Byrne (Swampscott) and Justin DiTomaso (Danvers).
The NEC North all-stars are English’s Mason Jean-Baptiste, Jack Rodriguez and Justin Fitzpatrick; Everett’s Eric Thompson and Nate Mehu; Beverly’s Toskany Abreu and Micah Danies; Classical’s Jeff Hill and Jeff Barbosa; Malden’s Christian Monahan Dasilva; Peabody’s Mike Tansey; Revere’s Scott Montefusco; Marblehead’s William Ackerman.
The NEC South all-stars are Somerville’s Jakari Ross and Sam Piexoto; Salem’s Guillermo Pimentel, Tommy Beauregard, Robert Jellison and Jhoan Vago; Gloucester’s Ben Oliver; Swampscott’s Andrew Augustin; Medford’s Ryan Cafferky and Alex Valera; Saugus’ Joseph Lusso; Winthrop’s Chrono Washington; Danvers’ Armani Vlaun.
The final NEC North standings are as follows: English (15-0), Everett (12-3), Beverly (11-4), Classical (11-4), Malden (6-9), Peabody (5-10), Revere (4-11), Marblehead (1-14).
The final NEC South standings are as follows: Somerville (11-4), Salem (11-4), Gloucester (10-5), Medford (9-6), Danvers (6-9), Swampscott (5-10), Winthrop (3-12), Saugus (1-14).
Also announced were the NEC girls basketball all-stars and awards for the 2018-2019 season. The Peabody Tanners were well represented with Stan McKeen earning coach of the year honors for the NEC North and freshman Oluchi Okananwa hauling in player of the year.
McKeen guided the Tanners to a 15-0 record in conference play.
Pat Veilleux of Danvers was named NEC North Coach of the Year. Swampscott’s Nikki Rosa was named NEC South Player of the Year. Salem (South) and English (North) won the sportsmanship awards.
The NEC North all-conference team includes English’s Mashayla Johnson, Revere’s Erika Cheever, Beverly’s Hailey Anderson, Marblehead’s Emily Clough, Peabody’s Liz Zaiter and Catherine Manning.
The NEC South all-conference team includes Saugus’ Alessia Salzillo and Kiley Ronan, Danvers’ Autumn James, Winthrop’s Maura Dorr and Swampscott’s Grace DiGrande.
The NEC North all-stars are Peabody’s Kristina Rossignoll and Colleen Crotty; Revere’s Emily DiGiulio and Carolina Bottero; Beverly’s Tia Bernard and Sabrina Beaudry; Classical’s Jazzmine Masse and Skyler Crayton; Everett’s Carolann Cardinal and Madison Duraes; English’s Kylia Reynoso and Maylin Echevarria; Marblehead’s Maddy Lowy; Malden’s Audrey Carleton.
The NEC South all-stars are Danvers’ Hailey Chisholm, Maddie Montanari and Gabby Chisholm; Saugus’ Taylor Bogdanski, Marissa Stockwell and Molly Granara; Swampscott’s Katie Watts and Sophie DiGrande; Winthrop’s Lily Pulsifer; Medford’s Kayla Dell’Anno; Salem’s Stephanie Cantone; Gloucester’s Ruby Melvin and Beatrice Summer; Somerville’s Kaitlyn Seeley.
