LYNN — A Lynn man allegedly ran over a 23-year-old Pawtucket, R.I., man with his car and dragged him a short distance Tuesday night. The victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital and is expected to survive.

Ronald Allen, 24, of 126 Winnepurkit Ave. in Lynn, was arrested and charged with reckless operation of a motor vehicle, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault with intent to murder, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

According to Lynn Police Lieutenant Michael Kmiec, officers responded to reports of a pedestrian accident on Winnepurkit Avenue just after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses told officers that Allen was speeding and the Pawtucket man chased after the car and threw an egg at it, according to the police report. Allen turned the car around and attempted to hit the victim, but he moved out of the way.

One witness smashed both the rear and passenger side windows of the black Honda Civic, driven by Allen, in an attempt to get him to stop driving, according to the report.

The victim ran after the car again, as it turned down Webbacowitt Avenue, and got in front of it, according to the report. Allen then sped up and struck the victim. After getting stuck underneath the car, the victim was dragged down the street.

Witnesses told officers they lifted the car in order to get the victim out.

The incident resulted after an ongoing feud between Allen and the victim over a Facebook post by a third female party associated with Allen, according to the statements of several witnesses. The victim was allegedly in Lynn with a goal of throwing eggs at Allen’s car because Allen and the female threw eggs at his friend’s house earlier Tuesday evening.

Officers who watched video evidence, taken by one of the witnesses, said it contradicted the account given by Allen.

Allen was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing at his arraignment at Lynn District Court on Wednesday.

Attempts by the Item to reach Allen’s attorney were unsuccessful.
