I am in favor of continuing to investigate the Wakefield/Lynnfield Rail Trail for one reason: the children of Lynnfield deserve a safe place to ride their bikes.
The non-binding referendum April 9 is not a final vote on this project, but a favorable vote will allow our state senator and representative to explore state funding to complete the project design, according to the town website. In other words, it’s another step on a long path that will allow us to determine the feasibility of our portion of the rail trail.
I am aware that concerns have been raised, some certainly legitimate, but why don’t we all take a deep breath, allow the Recreational Path Committee to gather more information, and wait to see all the evidence before we return with a verdict.
We owe our children that much.
